Something that happened today...

The Plight Of A Bird

8:30AM

A young man stared out across the open gravel lot. The sun was dreadfully hot and the day had only just begun. Not far away a crow landed and began picking through the rocks. The youth had always liked birds, and for most of his childhood his family owned chickens. One day he would have a bird of his own, a smart bird, like a small flying dog. The crow continued its foraging, ignorant of the thoughts bouncing through the man's mind. The crow began to hop as it traveled on foot before being obscured by an old rusty trailer. The man quickly shook of his head from the clouds and continued to load pallets into piles on top of yet more pallets.

Nerves of Steel chapter 1

Chapter one:
The Promise of Force
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Titha you need to have that leg checked out, I don't care if it's not bothering you."

Titha turned to look at the man standing before her, his thumbs were hooked over his belt and his mouth was set thin with a glare.

"You've got pieces of metal in your ankle, you can hardly walk, let alone fight!"

The Given Crown

The Given Crown

Two centuries is a long time. It's a long time to live, a long time to build, and a long long time to rule a kingdom. Today it would all end at the tip of a blade, the blood of one would be spilled tonight. One queen would fall, her fate decided. The casket was already open, waiting for the body of a monarch.

Thionen’s claws gouged chunks of stone out of the floor, as he rounded the corner only to see the girl’s fingertips inches from the book, his book. He increased his speed in an attempt to intercept her hand, but it was too late.

The Ruin Of A World

The Ruin Of A World

Large eyes stared intently at the alien world around them, darting across the lush green of the area. The gravity on this planet was totally different to what the cosmic explorer expected, it was far heavier than back home despite being a similarly sized planet. The fact that the green color came from plant life was incredibly exciting, although the main focus was on the potential sentient life here. For hundreds of years previously, it had been observed that the planet was emitting radio waves on specific frequencies and in consistent patterns. Small masses also left the planet on a semi yearly basis. As of late the signals had stopped and various forms of radiation leaked out of its atmosphere. Whatever was leaving the planet stopped too, and the faint glow of what some debated could be cities winked out.

Happy or Human?

Happy or Human?

Rain fell from above as if in slow motion tapping lightly on the umbrellas of the gathered crowd. Before the people stood three wooden boxes, engraved with beautiful patterns and crafted from the finest walnut; they had cost a small fortune to make but the price was justified, a necessity, the greatest form of sorrow they were allowed.

The Biggest Library chapter 1

Chapter one:
Anger and Ink
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thionen didn't get along with most people. He was relatively grumpy and his large stature often scared people away. Often… Most... There was one exception to the rule, a girl named Julie. To say that Thionen didn't make her nervous would be a lie. When the two first met she was downright terrified by him, however what he offered couldn't be found anywhere else.
